The Sphinx — Henry Salt 1817

A depiction of the front of the Great Sphinx of Giza as revealed in 1817 during the first excavations of the modern era. The image by Henry Salt, the British Consul General in Egypt at the time, was published in Operations Carried on at the Pyramids of Gizeh in 1837 (Vol 3).
